This movie is about three families that live at the foot of the ancient city walls of Xi’an, surviving through old traditions and embrace the changes of the new era. In their own way, the different families struggle, cadapt to, grow and finally find their way of happiness. The old walls become the intersection of parallel lives and inheritance of thousands of years is also the solid support for these people. The three families are all living inside of the old town: the old barber tries to find warmth in the adopted neighbor’s autistic son; the father quits his steady job to go into business in order to provide a better future for his daughter; an old shadow puppetry artist finds new inspiration from his young foreigner friend who knows the Chinese traditional culture well.
